Cloning and De-extincxtion

DNA is the building block of all life, if you unravel a human DNA it can reach to the sun and back 300 times and human 100 trillion chromosomes and 23 sets of sells, 23 from the mum and 23 from the dad which altogether is 46 sells.

What is cloning?

Cloning is when you take DNA from a living thing and make an embryo and implant the embryo into a surrogate mother and it makes a baby. because  they want to find out if they can make more animals and try and play God just to see if it would work. They can use this technology to save threatened or endangered animals. There are some animals that have been cloned like a sheep called Dolly and she was born in 1996 in scotland and died in 2003 and it lived for 6.5 years and OX that has lived for only 2 weeks there is also a Goat that was in China and a horse that was born in 2003.

What is de-extinction?

De-extinction is when you bring an animal that is already dead back to life. Some bad reasons to bring a dead animal back to life is because it is way to expensive because if you pay for it and waste all your money and the de-extinction doesn’t work then you wasted all your money for no reason and also people should start to think about saving the animals that are threatened and almost dying then trying to save an animal that is already dead.

cause and effect

This is cause and effect where we had to read a text and say what caused the bad thing to happen and what effected them at the end of it.

Microscope

When I put my eyes through the microscope I could see my own eye lashes then Thierry came along and arranged the microscope  so I could see the slide. The first thing I saw was the these little bean thingy, than I asked Thierry for another one and he gave me the Bee leg that looked very hairy. When I was gonna leave Senitila told me to look at her one because it looked like a pregnancy test, it had 1 line going across that is why she thought that so we started laughing.

What are genomes?

Double-Helix Structure of DNA

Double Helix
There are 23 sets of chromosomes in your body, Genes are building blocks of the boom made of ACGT, DNA=2 sets=Double Helix, there are 100 trillion cells

Traits - A distinguishably quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person
Genome - The haploid set of chromosomes in a gamete or microorganism
Genome map - Information for your body/chromosomes
Genetic conditions - Occurs when you inherit an altered gene from your parents
Inherited - Get from your parents
Molecule - Together

Genomes are -
  • Instructional Manual
  • Information about any living organism
  • Like a book/ if a genome is a book the paper of the book is the DNA

What is genomics

Genomics Reading - Notes/Vocab Monday 27th July 2020

GENOMICS is the study of genes that make up the body.
Organism - a living thing (humans, bugs, birds, animals etc).
XX - female

XY - male
Humans have 22 sets of chromosomes which are made up of A, C, G and T bases.

These are in different combinations which change your physical appearance/characteristics.

Identical twins will have the same DNA. Non-identical twins will not.

Yemen Reading

TOPIC 1

TOPIC 2

TOPIC 3

Topic: Yemen

What is happening: - In Yemen there are kids that only eat once a day and they die because they don’t have that much things to eat and the kids only want peace in their country. There is so many wars happening in Yemen and the kids don’t like it. The war is against their own country.
Who is involved: The people living in Yemen
Where is it happening: In yemen
Why is it happening: The kids want peace because there are civil wars. Civil war is when people fight their own country.

How did this occur: There was a group called the houthis that overthrew the countries leader and it grew into a bigger fight mostly because of the neighbors.

When did it start, and how long will it last? It started in 2015. I think they would stop suffering when the soldiers find the houthis and help the yemen's with their health problems

How do the people living in this particular situation feel? The people that live in Yemen feel like they have to do something to stop the war, The kids want peace but there is just to much war. The kids don’t like watching people fight in their country.
What is the long-term effects of this event? The effects would be that there is going to be like a lot of children dying because they don’t have much food to eat, and there is so much war that the people might accidentally shoot the kids
How can one individual person help make a difference regarding this topic?
One person could grab heaps of food from a country and put it in their bag then take it to Yemen, That one person could also put the tanks and guns in one secret place so no one can ever find it.
Add 3-5 pictures to this Google Drawing that are related to this topic.

#BLM (Black Lives Matter)

First happened

“ I can’t breathe ”, On the 25th of May 2020, there was this innocent man called George Floyd. George was at the shops buying Giana some food, he got to the counter and went to pay and just as he was about to walk out the Cops showed up and said that George was using Forged money so they had to arrest him even though he was innocent. He was with some of his family/Friends members just about to hop in the car but then 2 Cop members came to there car and told the person that was driving to get out and the person that was sitting in the back seat to get out too, both of the Cops went to George Floyd and put handcuffs on him for using forged money which he didn’t. The Cops took him near the wall that asked him a few questions, the Cops told him to get up and get into the car than George replied

“ please no please I got a daughter ” than the policeman named Derek Chauvin replied

“ get up or I will shoot you ” that's what you call a threat.

The shock of life
As he hopped in the car the policemen were chatting a lot and then Derek Chauvin quickly grabbed out George and laid him down on the floor right next to the wheel and put his knee on his neck which they were trying to make him die. Before he had died his last few words were “ I can’t breath” and “ don’t kill me please”, that a few seconds later George had died. When the whole world found out what had happened black people were mad and frustrated including some white people who are not racist, all of this was going around on the news and social media and worldwide so everyone could see it. Back then heaps of people were racist and never cared and once there was this person who had put up on social media and said black people should just go back to being slaves, That's why in New Zealand there is a day called Black Friday that reminds us of how black people were used as slaves back in the days.

The “N” Word
Donald Trump is a racist man in America. When he found out George Floyd had died he started mocking him saying “ I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe”. In some places, people call black people the “N” word (Nigga) which I think is a very sad way to call someone that cause white people wouldn’t like it if we called them a white name so why would they think black people would like that as well. The best thing to do in America and other places is to not do violence because your mothers and fathers did not raise you to kill or hurt anyone, they raised you to learn and be a good wonderful person in this world, people can learn from their mistakes if they at least try. Imagine what it feels like to be a mother or a father and someone calls or you see on the internet and it says your son or daughter has died. That is so shocking for them to find out that the police have killed their child. They could have a heart attack for finding out that way or they could faint, people raised their kids to grow and live as long as they can not for someone so dumb to kill them by putting their knee on there neck to stop them from breathing. We all didn’t grow up to call people “Nigga” or any other bad word all of us grew up to be friends/family and to include people in things, it doesn’t matter what color your skin is what matters is that you did a good job at including people in things no matter what color they are.

Protesters
All around the world have protested like NZ, Australia, England, Spain, even America because Black lives matter not just white lives. Some Cops around the world show their respect to black people and they go on their knees to show their respect. Donald Trump needs to stop this violence because it's just gonna be even worse, every protester has had a sign to show their love to black people and also to George Floyd. Violence is gonna do nothing besides put you in Jail,

We should change the Laws to stop the violence everywhere

THE TUNNELLERS FROM NEW ZEALAND
The men who volunteered for the New Zealand Tunnelling Company were mostly miners from towns like Waihi or Reefton – or they were bushmen and labourers. They were rough, tough men, used to working in dangerous situations and looking out for their mates. Many belonged to trade unions and didn’t take kindly to authority, but they soon learned to march, salute, and take orders. In December 1915, after basic military training in Auckland, more than four hundred men left for the Western Front. Several smaller groups of tunnellers followed later as reinforcements. The Tunnelling Company arrived in the northern French town of Arras in the freezing winter of March 1916. Arras had once been beautiful – but by 1916, it was in ruins. Most of the civilians had been evacuated, and British troops occupied the shattered buildings. Every day, German artillery Ɠ red shells into the town. Other tunnelling companies were already based near Arras, and each one was in charge of a certain area. The New Zealanders were sent to replace French tunnellers who were digging beneath a network of trenches named the Labyrinth. It was here – just north of Arras – that the New Zealanders joined the war underground.

Trade unions - a group of workers who come together to fight for better working conditions (E.g. cleaner places, better pay, better hours).
Waihi - a place in NZ - north island - where they had a big mine.
Miners - people who worked in mines
Labourers - people who had labour intensive jobs (E.g. builders, carpenters, road workers)
Ruins - a building that
Civilians - normal people, not soldiers
Evacuate - to leave
Occupied - stayed in
Labyrinth - a type of maze
Mariah: Some group of soldiers had one job it was to make many tanall and fams too. In December 1915, after basic military training in Auckland, more than four hundred men as part of the NZ Tunnelling company left for the Western Front.Their job was to build tunnels near the French town of Arras.
Wesley: Nearly all the men volunteered to invade the Western front. All of the civilians were evacuated before NZ got to the Western front. The NZ tunneling crew arrived at the Northern french town in Arras in the freezing winter of March 1916. They had to dig tunnels underground for their job. They were to dig under the enemy and explode them.

Michael: all of the men who volunteered for the NZ Tunnelling company were mostly miners from towns like Waiho or Reefton or they were bushmen. In december 1915 basic military training in Auckland, more than four hundred men left for the western Front. A group of the military's job was to build tunnels underground. They had to dig under the enemy so they could throw bombs and EXPLODE the enemies. The New Zealanders were sent to replace french tunnelers who were digging beneath a network of trenches named a type of maze.

Davlyn: In 1915 the men that volunteered had to dig tunnels under the enemy's trenches, and in some of the tunnels had explosives but they had to dig really deep. The men had to be good at their job, so if you got someone that did not know how to mine they, they would probably die but if you get a person that knew how to mine they will not die and make better tunnels.
Hope: There were Men who volunteered for the New Zealand tunnelling company and they were mostly miners from towns like Waihi and Reefton. In December 1915 after basic training in Auckland more than four hundred men left for the western front. Several smaller groups of men followed after as reinforcements. They had to dig under the enemy so they could throw bombs

Eh htoo: In 1915 man who volunteered for the New Zealand Tunnelling were mainly miners from Waihɒ or Reefton or just bushman the men who worked there they had to be rough, tough men and looking out for their mates.

Railey- During WW1, 1914, the mens that volunteered for the NZ tunneling company, were put to dig underground to go to the enemy trench. But the mens that were picked were mostly Farmers and miners that were mainly from Waiho or Reefton.
Maria: In 1915 there were Mens who volunteered for the New Zealand tunnelling company and most of them were miners from Waihi and Reefton or they were bushmens. A group of the Military’s Job was to build tunnels underground, They had to dig under there enemies so they could Bomb and explode their enemies from underground. If you had a person who didn’t know how to build a mine then they could probably die but if you do have a person who knew how to make a mine then they will survive and build more tunnels.

Senitila : There were men who volunteered for the New Zealand Tunneling Company. Some of the men were miners from other towns known as Waihi and Reefton. In December 1915 there was basic training in Auckland, New Zealand.

Named after different cities in NZ - E.g. Christchurch, Auckland.

Why was it important that the men in the tunnelling company knew what they were doing? Why did they need to be experts?
